"Valley High School, first called Jefferson County High School...construct(ed) along Dixie Highway in 1936. It cost $100,000 to build. The school opened in the fall of that year with 10 classrooms, 23 teachers and 570 students."

The school has two main sections facing Dixie Highway. The original section is to the south, and an addition, which kept with the styling, was added to the north in 1952-53.
