On this page you'll find the Baxter Ave. railroad overpass built in 1936, with the Baxter Station depot that's located immediately up the tracks from the overpass. The overpass is located at the intersection of Baxter Ave., Lexington Rd. and Liberty St. The Baxter Station depot is quite run-down as you can see, but still has a nice design. I am unsure of its construction date but would assume it to be pretty close to the 1936 overpass that was built nearby which raised the tracks above Baxter Ave. It would only make sense that the station was built at this same elevated position at or near the same time. I'd love to find some old original photos of the depot. Also on this page is the Pennsylvania Railroad overpass built in 1940, which is located in the 1400 block of W. Broadway. You'll notice how the vertical flutes become more simplified between 1936 and 1940 (more modernized). You can see from the plaque below the Penn RR bridge that it was constructed as part of the federal Public Works Program. The empty insignia areas used to contain Pennsylvania RR emblems.
